WHY TECH CREW HQ?
Tech Crew HQ was built primarily for high school students, on the basis that students love to express their creativity in many ways and that technical theatre brings together technology, art, expression, creativity and passion. Most schools have a backstage and technical theatre group who supports school productions, however not every school has access to the skills and knowledge required to enhance productions and ensure students are learning safe stage practices. Over our years of working with schools on their productions and events we have seen a gap between the incredible enthusiasm of students and the technical theatre training available to them- so we created Tech Crew HQ! Tech Crew HQ allows students to build their skills and knowledge with all aspects of backstage and technical production. With the skills learnt in Tech Crew HQ, students will be more capable to operate the technical elements of school productions and events. It also provides a base for future career opportunities in live events, theatre and the arts. Tech Crew HQ can also be used in other organisations including churches, TAFE, community theatre and drama groups. |
What CAN TECH CREW HQ do for my TEAM?
In our experience over years of working with schools on their concerts and musicals we have learnt that students relish the opportunity to be involved in all aspects of a production and take ownership when they are delegated with a specific role. Often the most memorable times for students whilst at school are productions, plays and concerts. In Tech Crew students can be immersed in dance, drama, music, design and the collaborative processes involved for showcasing these works. Many of the tasks involved in providing technical support for events is based on enquiry based learning, problem solving and conceptualization. Being part of the backstage and technical crew requires future-ready skills which employers seek including creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, people management, emotional intelligence, service orientation, negotiation, decision making, cognitive flexibility and cognitive problem solving. https://ozobot.com/blog/oz218-what-are-future-ready-skills-and-how-can-they-help-students-succeed |
HOW WILL TECH CREW HQ HELP MY events?
All events rely on key people to provide technical support for the vast array of events throughout the year including concerts, plays, productions, meetings, awards ceremonies and assemblies.
Having a capable group of technical crew to call upon is vital to the success of these events, ensuring that they run smoothly and that attendees are impressed by the standards set. The skills and knowledge in Tech Crew HQ is an investment in abilities of the students and also in the capabilities of the organisation. |
PART OF STEAM EDUCATION
Technical Theatre encompasses all of the elements of STEAM: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics with an emphasis on project based learning.
Whilst not thought of as the traditional ‘STEM’ or ‘STEAM’ approach in a school, Tech Crew allows students to easily move past the ‘I’m good at maths and science, so I’m not creative” way of thinking. It also allows a school to invest in STEAM at their school without the need to create a ‘Maker space’ or purchase more coding and robotics equipment.
Some examples of how Tech Crew incorporates STEAM education:
S: How light is created in a fixture, reflection/refraction of light, Acoustics and different sound environments, characteristics of sound, how the ear interprets frequencies of sound, how the eye perceives light and colour,
T: Use of specialized computer software, moving head (robotic) lighting fixtures, digital sound desks, use of projection and video in productions, use of new technologies and data transport protocols.
E: Creating supports for set construction, creating props for specific performances, adapting existing costumes for movement on stage, developing innovative elements of production, new rigging techniques to achieve different lighting effects, how equipment connects together to create a signal.
A: Immersion in a variety of scripts, music pieces and emotive performances, creative interpretation of the technical elements of a performance, character analysis for plays and musicals, comparison of film and live performance, audience interpretation of light, costume, set and sound.
M: Calculation of lighting and power draw, numeric values of light intensity, interpretation of content and display resolutions, measuring and marking up a space, setting audio and vision delay times.
Tech Crew is perfect for people who love the arts but who are not performers.
Best of all Tech Crew students have access to knowledge via the Tech Crew HQ online platform and can practice the practical elements on the technical equipment that already exists at your school, TAFE, church, community theatre or other organisation.
The knowledge and skills learnt in Tech Crew HQ have real-world application for your productions and events.

Will TECH CREW HQ HELP MY TEAM's FUTURE CAREERS?
